In Ostaszewo, near Toruń, a European Logistics Centre is rising. The origin of the project is the need for greater logistic flexibility and satisfying the storage needs, which come from increased production and sales. Our own logistics centre means greater independence from outside storage spaces, as well as taking entrepreneurial actions towards financial savings (every businessman estimates the pace of ROI).

The investment takes place on UMC Poland Sp. z o.o. grounds. Locating the construction in Pomeranian Special Economic Zone (PSEZ) is based on two facts: the UMC factory is placed here, investment grounds are available. Having the Centre near the factory will additionally minimise the logistics and transportation issues. No need for financing the transportation, supervising complicated logistics means additional financial resources will stay within UMC Poland. The board of PSEZ is also pleased because an investment of one of the zone’s members is a positive sign for entrepreneurs who are searching for construction sites, areas to locate their business.

The general contractor is a renown construction company SKANSKA. The company SAFAGE, which belongs to the SUEZ Group, a worldwide corporation with French origins, is supervising the construction. They are also the backup investor. The UMC board has decided to apply a multilevel coordination of the project, which will allow for looking after the investment, as well as minimise the risks.

The object will be 30 000 square metres including the manoeuvring areas. 20 000 square metres will be taken by the warehouse area with a small office space and a rest and refreshment facilities. The warehouse will be of a high-stack type, up to 5 levels for storage. It will meet all current fire requirements as well as requirements for employers who are creating new workplaces. It will consist of 5 independently functioning parts, which will allow it to be used for commercial purposes.

It is a huge challenge for the team responsible for the building. A special team is working with this issue from UMC which is cooperating with a solid brand in this industry. The team is engaged in the works and up-to-date on the construction’s progress. Mr. Piotr Nasierowski, Building Coordinator in UMC from October 2016, said a few words about this investment: “A huge challenge for the Building Coordinator from the beginning of the investment, is coordinating the needs of the factory with financial possibilities. It is difficult to organize every step of every day in a functioning factory and be ready for what the moment may bring. We have already had issues with the needs of construction which were in conflict with the need of reacting to the market. Increased transport or more inflow of components when we should close gate”.

We have a great perspective of a new working place in 2018. We would like to get every permit by July 2018 and we would like to start using this object. We invite everyone who would like to work with us in warehouse or in logistics to contact with us.

Last year was very busy and we had good production and sales results. We were involved in IFA 2017 in Berlin and it was the most outstanding presentation of production and technological capacities of UMC, SHARP member. We produce a few thousands of TVs every day and we sale it in almost all of Europe. The board wishes develop the sales beyond known markets. UMC is open to new possibilities and starts the distribution of a new SHARP product – SDA.

UMC started the year 2018 without slowing down the pace. The team working in the factory gets the opportunity to carry out their professional aspirations within the company which has the status of a stable and a large employer in the region.
